Enterprise Open Meeting - 21st Sept 2008 Race report – the view from the back
The Killington Enterprise Open attracted its biggest fleet yet, with a top quality turnout of fifteen boats including the current National Champion Tim Sadler.
The weather at this beautiful Cumbrian venue is always predictable – you can be certain it will be different every time. This year delivered in fine style, with blue skies, warm sunshine and the very gentlest of breezes that taxed everyone’s concentration to the max. Lots of windshifts and holes added to the fun.
Courses were set with relatively few reaches, requiring ultimate concentration downwind as well as on the beats, and mark-rounding skills were put to the test, particularly at the back end of the fleet, where a poor approach could lose you many yards and quite a few places.
Lunchtime saw bodies sunning themselves on the grass, and homemade cake snapped up (thanks, Geraldine!). Race management was excellent, with intelligent courses and no nasty surprises, in conditions that tested the OD as much as anyone else.
Well done Charles and Hannah, and we hope to see even more Ents at next year’s edition of this increasingly popular event, at a sensational venue.
