Race 1:    1 0 5 9 7        Race 2:    2 1 4 7    Race 3 : abandoned

Well - we were warned - there will be no wind at Killington!!!!  Some may have been deterred by the forecast but, many thanks to some stalwart sailors, we had nine visitors (SIX from Delph!!!) for this the forth Killington Open meeting.

Our OD for the day, Pete Lawson held the briefing at 10.30 and advised us that the wind had been ordered and "was on its' way".

Sure enough the first race started on time with a nice force 2 breeze from the south.  Soon leading the fleet was Wayne Atherton with his new (and excited) crew Hannah Beckford.  I don't think the result was in any doubt but he was closely followed by Steve Coldicott and Mark Atherton.  They were followed by Ally Jones sailing with his 7 year old son Harry.  Steve Mason crewed by Hannah's sister Leah had a nip and tuck battle with Ian + Geraldine Downs for the next two places.  It was a splendid course with plenty of spinnaker gibing practice all the way down from 1 to 7!

The result of the first race was 1st - Atherton, 2nd - Coldicott and 3rd - Jones

So it was we broke for lunch and the offering of prayers for more wind.  The wind was indeed blowing nicely for what was planned as the first of the afternoon races and the OOD extended the course to include the whole length of the lake.

Once again Wayne and Hannah showed their superiority but this time they were challenged by Martin Burgess and his niece Carmela.  The wind died almost completely shortly into the second lap as the two leaders rounded the windward mark.  This caused havoc - particularly as what little wind there was changed direction 180o.  Wayne and Hannah only just managed to make the finishing mark - without pumping!!  The OOD allowed the remaining boats to finish and racing was abandoned for the day

The result of the second race was 1st- Atherton, 2nd - Burgess and 3rd - Coldicott

I don't think there has ever been a happier winner of an open meeting than Hannah Beckford - it's fair to say we only had to wait a short time whilst she "made herself ready" for the prize giving!

See you (and hopefully some more) next year......
